In a recent in Superior Court case in Quebec, a Montreal billionaire is being sued by his common law wife of 10 years for alimony. The wife is trying to get a constitutional precedent set for other common law couples in the province. The 35 year old woman is seeking $50 Million from her common law husband as well as $56,000 a month in alimony. Current Quebec law prevents alimony from being paid when common law marriages end. However, child support for any children from the relationship is mandatory. The woman in this case has three children by the man on trial.
The man on trial in the case is currently paying child support for his children in the amount of $35,000 a month. In addition, his ex and three children live in an upscale Montreal neighborhood in a home that is worth $2.5 Million. In addition, he provides tutors for his children’s education, two nannies to help raise the children, and even a driver.

In the poker world, Laliberté is a well known high stakes player. His biggest poker accomplishment came in 2007 when he parlayed a satellite into the $25,000 WPT Championship into a final table run. He would finish 4th in the event for $696,200. Carlos Mortensen was the eventual winner. Outside of his WPT final table, Laliberté is perhaps best known for the insane amounts of money he has lost playing high stakes poker online. In 2007, Laliberté lost a total of $20 Million. In 2008, he was able to “slow the bleeding” as he only lost $10 Million.

Tom Dwan aka Durrrr has issued a high stakes heads up challenge on the next Bluff Magazine issue. Tom Dwan is up over 6 million dollars over 55k hands at Full Tilt Poker. This could jeopardize his whole roll potentially if he loses. Currently he is the number one online poker player in the world for high stakes cash games. Did he do this challenge in vain? Almost half of his winnings come from Guy Laliberté who is the biggest fish online. Unless Guy accepts his challenge (which I doubt he will since hes a billionaire), I don’t see how Tom Dwan can lay down these odds. The rules of the challenge state that his opponents beat him over a course of 50k hands playing 4 screens at once. Tom Dwan admits he is not the best overall poker player, but thinks he has an edge playing 4 screens. So far only Patrik Antonius and Phil Ivey have accepted his offer while David Benyamine (Mr B 2 U son) is mulling over the offer.
